Reasons To Visit The Children’s Museum Of Houston
The Children’s Museum Of Houston has undergone a revamp, and has doubled in size! Rated as the top museum for children in the U.S. by ‘Parents Magazine’, the venue includes 90,000 square feet of interactive, innovative bilingual exhibits dedicated to children from the ages of birth to 12 years.
The Children’s Museum of Houston, as the name suggests, is dedicated to young children. Exhibits include the Tot*Spot, for toddlers up to 24 months old. This area includes a pillow and ball pit, and a train table. Older children enjoy exhibits such as the Mini Engineering Workshop, Invention Convention, or EcoStation, which is an outdoor/indoor area where children can immerse themselves in observing animals such as turtles in a pond to hands-on leaf rubbings.
The outdoor FlowWorks is an interactive exhibit where children can participate in different water games while standing in the center of an 18-foot cauldron (ideal for hot summer days). Kidtropolis is another exciting space that includes a mini-city for children, run by children. This adventure allows kids to get jobs, receive paychecks, go shopping for groceries, and more. SECRET Spy Game is an interactive espionage-themed experience to enhance problem-solving skills.
The Children’s Museum adheres to ADA guidelines through the exhibits and building. Parents using strollers or those that require assistance to access the How Does It Work? an area on the second floor or the Power Play exhibits are permitted to use the stroller/wheelchair lift. Visitors that would like to make use of this lift need to pick up a key for the lift by visiting the Information Booth. There are also wheelchairs made available on a first-come, first-serve basis (with an identification deposit).
The new garage for the museum now has a ramp for wheelchairs between the ground levels and the deck. Every year, on six Mondays, the Museum partners with the Houston Independent School District to offer tours of the museum for children that have special needs.
The Children’s Museum Houston is located northeast of Hermann Park and is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm (with extended hours until 8 pm on Thursday). Admission is $12 for adults and children with an additional fee of $7 for The Spy Game. Street and paid parking are available close to the museum, and the venue can also be reached via the METRO Bus and METRO Rail. Entrance fees are free every Thursday evening from 5 pm to 8 pm.
